"Warning" A New Virus Detected On Facebook

A new virus detected on Facebook

Archives

Be careful if you click on a video sent by a friend on Messenger: you may invite a malware to install on your computer, whether it be a Windows PC or a Mac.

You receive a message from a friend on Facebook Messenger containing a video to watch. So you click on the link and it is at this point that everything is spoiled. You are returned to a media player and, clicking on it to watch the video, software will be downloaded. This is a malware that will infiltrate your computer to send advertising messages that will pop up on the screens through false updates. All browsers would be affected (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, ...) and no system is spared, neither MacOS nor Windows.

This malware has been detected by the company Kaspersky. On the company's blog, its security experts acknowledge that they still do not know how it spreads. "Maybe using stolen IDs, hacking browsers or diverting clicks," says David Jacoby, director at Kaspersky Lab.

While it is not a virus or Trojan horse that steals banking or personal data, it will seriously hamper the use of the computer by slowing it down, forcing users to wait End of a message and to click in the right place to close the window, at the risk of opening a new one.

As David Jacoby explains, the method is not new, but this time the technique used is impressive by the level of targeting Which even allows to reach the users of Mac, usually spared by the damages of files in ".exe" which aim almost exclusively Windows.

To protect its subscribers, Facebook announces measures: "If we suspect the presence of malicious software in your computer, we will offer you, through our trusted partners, a free antivirus scan." In the meantime, the best way to guard against this wave is not to click on the videos we receive on Messenger.
