War Ambazonia: the promises of Paul Biya to the European Union

Several elections are planned for this year 2018

It was during the first regular annual session of the structured political dialogue between Cameroon and the European Union (EU) on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Ministry of External Relations in Yaounde.

External Relations Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella and seven of his government colleagues on one side and Hans Peter Schadek, the Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation and some Heads of Mission residents of EU Member States in Yaounde. Several subjects have furnished the exchanges, including the situation in the English-speaking regions of the country.

Lejeune Mbella Mbella reassured the delegation of the European Union on the measures undertaken for a return to calm: "the President of the Republic continues to work for the appeasement return in these two regions. And all mechanisms are in place for the continuation of the dialogue and especially that the expected elections are held in appeasement and serenity, "reports Cameroon Tribune newsstands Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Other concerns of EU plenipotentiaries revolved around the economic situation in the Central Africa subregion. The European side appreciated the resilience of the Cameroonian economy to the difficulties faced by other countries because of the drop in oil prices that occurred in 2014.

"They welcomed all the initiatives taken by Cameroon to continue to advance despite the international situation that has an impact on our economy, "said Lejeune Mbella Mbella. Other topics were also discussed, including the prospect of organizing elections in Cameroon in 2018.

On this last aspect, says Cameroon Tribune, the Minister of External Relations reiterated assurances on the upcoming elections in a calm climate, starting from the commitment of President Paul Biya to the nation on December 31, 2017.
