The Non-Governmental Organization notes that the security situation in Cameroon deteriorated considerably last December. 

In its monthly report published on January 3, 2018 the International Crisis Group (ICG), the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), notes that the security situation deteriorated considerably in December in Cameroon, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Palestine. in Israel, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and Honduras. 

With regard to Cameroon, the NGO indicates that tension has persisted between the security forces and English-speaking secessionists, especially in the South-West. "In the Manyu department, secessionists in the Southwest region clashed with security forces nine times in several locations from December 4 to 25, killing six gendarmes and one soldier, bringing the number of members to seventeen. security forces killed in English-speaking areas, "says the ICG.

The NGO also indicates that some military officials in the South West claim that some soldiers have deserted the army to join the ranks of English-speaking separatists. It notes that security forces continue to inflict violence on civilians. 

"Armed forces reportedly killed or arrested and beat several civilians and burned dozens of houses in Kembong and Babong in Manyu Department on 20 and 23 December in retaliation for the killing of the security forces; allegedly pro-secession, residents of both villages fled to Nigeria. " The ICG reports that 10,000 Cameroonian refugees arrived in Nigeria's Benue State in December, adding another 28,000 to Cross River State. 

Regarding the Far North, the NGO reports that Boko Haram continued its attacks, "but at a low level." It indicates that more than 80 members of the Nigerian sect surrendered in December to the Cameroonian authorities.
