The Insult Of Donald Trump To African Countries

'Land shit', the insult of Donald Trump to African countries

The lack of discernment, the other Trump's disease

Condescension on the part of the 45th president of the world's leading power? Distorted or poorly reported? The questions are as insult addressed by Donald Trump to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador, does not seem out of the mouth of a president of the United States of America. But the Washington Post that reports these words is formal. The successor to Barack Obama has insulted these countries by calling them "shitty country" at a meeting devoted to immigration Office Oval!

Silence in African chancelleries based in the country of Uncle Sam and no (yet) reactions of African personalities who have weight in public life. But they can not wait. For now, the only reply to Donald Trump comes from Laurent Lamothe, the former Prime Minister of Haiti. On his Twitter account, he called Trump's statement "unacceptable".

Limitation of immigration from "shitty countries"

"Shame on Trump! The world is now witnessing a new baseness with this remark about the shitty countries. Totally unacceptable and otherwise misplaced, it [note, ed] shows a lack of respect and ignorance never seen before in the recent history of the United States by any president! Enough is enough!! "Responds Laurent Lamothe.

But what triggered the fury of the former Haitian prime minister? Thursday, January 11, in the Oval Office of the White House. Donald Trump receives Democratic and Republican senators in order to reach a bipartisan consensus around a project to limit immigration. The president is ready to yield on the program Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), intended for the young "Dreamers" often arrived children in the United States that he intended to expel. In exchange, the Trump Administration wants to reduce by 50% the lottery for the Green Card and limit the family reunification policy.

The discussion that brings together protagonists with opposite ideas heats up. Donald Trump would have gone away. Speaking of immigrants from the countries of Africa, El Salvador and Haiti, he questions his interlocutors: "Why do all these people from shitty countries come here [to the United States]? ", Reports the Washington Post that reconstructs the scene from testimonials from people who participated in the discussion. For the president of the first (still) world power, such are the "Shithole countries", when he gets carried away at least.

The lack of discernment, the other Trump's disease

The US president also reportedly preferred immigration from Norway or Asia because it would be more beneficial to the US economy. Without denying the words of Donald Trump, Raj Shah, a spokesman for the executive reacted in a statement that seems to drive the point of this nascent controversy.

"Some politicians in Washington choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people. Like other nations with merit-based immigration, President Trump fights for lasting solutions that strengthen our country by welcoming those who contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate to our great nation. " the press release of Raj Shah.

In his relationship with African countries, the American president seems more interested in the "commercial potential" of the Continent to compete with China, the installation of drone bases in several African countries, and to build diplomatic relations with these countries based on the respect. Witness his bickering with Chad's Idriss Déby Itno, his ping-pong with Khalifa Haftar of Libya, his half-carrot half-stick relationship with Omar El Bashir of Sudan. The only president of the Continent who seems to have the favor of the billionaire-president seems to be the Egyptian Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi.

After the announcement of the reduction of US aid to African countries, some of the US President's decisions contained in his list of promises during the race to the White House may have impacts on Africa. The first consequence is this restricted view on immigration from Africa, born in the controversy. Donald Trump's remarks come on the eve of his first medical visit. Without doubting his sanity, the presidential doctors may diagnose another disease: the lack of discernment!
