Risk Of Fuel Shortage In English- Speaking Regions

Risk of fuel shortage in English-speaking regions

Truck drivers announce stoppage of distribution

On January 7th, the National Union of Professional Transport Drivers of Cameroon (SYNCPROTCAM) held a general meeting in Bafoussam, in the Western region. An opportunity for the players in this activity, to call on the Government to provide solutions to the crisis of carriers that has prevailed in this sector for some time ..

Indeed, the organization that brings together truck drivers to those motorotaxis and rail transport personnel, mention numerous correspondence addressed to the local authorities as well as to the Government. In these letters, which until now have received no reply, they mention the absence of employment contracts, social security cover, unfair dismissals and lack of security.

"Many drivers suffer from intoxication, which can be a real risk factor that can lead to a slow death or early," says the side of the union, which is the fact that employers in this sector refuse to become aware of this reality. Yet, says SYNCPROTCAM, these drivers are misunderstood and marginalized.

In its publication of Friday, January 12, 2018, Le Messager reports that these drivers therefore evoke the possibility of achieving a stop of the distribution of fuels in the Littoral, Northwest, Southwest and West regions.

"In the next few days, there may be a halt in the distribution of fuels, since the discomfort has been going on for a long time and no resolution has ever been taken and we have exhausted the remedies provided by the law. ", Reads a correspondence signed by Emmanuel Nyandze, SYNCPROTCAM's Greater West Regional Coordinator.

It must be said that the correspondences in question, some of which are addressed to the general manager of Total Cameroon, are from February to June 2017. All indications are that we will certainly move towards the the distribution of fuels in the regions mentioned above, if nothing is done to satisfy the complainants.
