Botswana summons US ambassador after Trump skids
Gaborone "wonders why President Trump must resort to derogatory vocabulary
Botswana has announced that it has summoned the US ambassador to express "dissatisfaction" with the "racist" remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump, describing several African nations and Haiti as "shitty countries".
"We consider that the words of the current US President are highly irresponsible, reprehensible and racist," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The Botswana government also asked the ambassador to "clarify whether Botswana is perceived as a + shitty country + considering that there are Botswana citizens living in the United States".
Gaborone "wonders why President Trump must resort to derogatory vocabulary to talk about countries with which the United States has enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial bilateral relations for so many years."

Botswana, a small country in southern Africa, concludes its statement by calling on "all other progressive nations to strongly condemn Donald Trump's remarks."
According to several US media quoting people present at a meeting at the White House on Thursday, the US president denounced immigration from "shitty countries" such as Haiti or African countries.
Donald Trump, however, challenged Friday to have used this expression, which has sparked a wave of indignation around the world.
