Nigeria prays dialogue for crisis resolution

The high commissioner of this country, Lawan Abba Gashagar, was received in audience Friday by Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji. 

There were three in the cabinet of Senate Speaker Marcel Niat Njifenji last Friday. The Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroon, the Swiss Ambassador and the President of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Parliamentary Assembly (ACP). 

First, Lawan Abba Gashagar, Nigeria's High Commissioner in Cameroon, met with the Senate Speaker on the state of cooperation between the two countries and the situation in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon . Indeed, the High Commissioner recalled that Cameroon is hosting thousands of Nigerian refugees and that to date, both countries are thinking about the strategy to set up to return them to their country of origin in the best conditions.

Regarding the situation in the English-speaking regions, Lawan Abba Gashagar said that his country encourages a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the problem. But, "there is no question of supporting any situation likely to create problems for our neighbors, just as we do not want our neighbors to support some situation that will be a problem," he added. Another guest received in the Senate, Piétro Lazzeri, the new ambassador of Switzerland in Cameroon. 

On the menu of exchanges, the last visit of the Swiss President of the Council of States (Senate equivalent) in Cameroon. The new ambassador and the president of the Senate also discussed the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of migration and vocational training, as well as the humanitarian aid that Switzerland provides in Cameroon. 

Finally, the recently elected President of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly, Joseph Hyacinthe Owona Kono, came to report and express his gratitude to the Senate Speaker following his election in Brussels. "I approached him to tell him that I will come and drink the source of his advice," he added.
