It is now possible to change operators while keeping the same number

The principle of telephone number portability, which allows the exchange of telephone companies by keeping the same number, will be operational in Cameroon from 1 September 2017, APA learned Tuesday from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. 

In order to materialize this project, which was intended by the government, an information campaign aimed at the general public was launched in order to better explain to subscribers "not only the merits of this change, but also the advantages "They say to the ministry. 

In practice, the new deal means that from September 1st, that is to say in two weeks, mobile subscribers will be able to roam between operators the different operators in service in Cameroon with one and the same phone number.

In other words, you will not necessarily need to change your phone number, depending on whether you are subscribed to the local subsidiary of the South African firm, the Mobile telephon network (MTN), or to the multinational NEXTELL, Viettel's Vietnamese subsidiary, which are the three operators of mobile telephony using GMS technology. 

These operators under the supervision of the government had signed a partnership agreement in this direction in January 2017 for 1.5 billion CFA francs of investment with as project owner the Chinese multinational Huiwei. 

This innovative technology allows consumers not to have several SIM in a context of mobile explosion in Cameroon, with the bar of 18 million subscribers out of a population estimated at 24 million according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART).
